My apologies, blog followers, for the long vacation I’ve taken from writing blog posts lately! I really have no excuse for you – nothing that’s really much of an excuse anyway. I’ve been busy – but that’s the worst excuse of all, I think. It’s probably been more because of laziness.
We’ve just come away from an entire month of smoky skies and scorching temperatures here in Central Oregon, and it feels like I’ve been under a rock for most of that time. I’ve been doing a lot of writing during that time – which has been awesome. But I’ve also spent a lot of that time moping around – which hasn't been very fun at all.
Why am I moping around? Some of it has to do with the current state of my day job. Certain things that don’t need to be rehashed. But it’s caused my life to stall a bit, and it’s brought up all these weird negative feelings that just… ughh.
It’s been a strange time, to say the least. All that job stuff always seems like it shouldn’t be a big deal, but it always is.
It makes me really excited for the day when I’ll be able to write young adult fiction full-time. A day that I hope will come soon!
So basically, I’ve spent a month adrift in the doldrums. No wind, no nothing. Just smoke and heat. But hey – at least I’ve gotten some writing done in the meantime.
The publication date for the second Drowning in the Dark has been pushed back to October (really not so far away at this point.) Initially, it was supposed to be August, but for marketing reasons, You Come Too Publishing decided to release it in October. Which I think is a good idea, but at the same time, it’s hard having to wait – especially since the book is mostly finished at this point. But, I should learn to be more patient. The important thing is that it’s coming out soon, and I just have to keep my eyes on the prize.
One really cool thing that I’ve done recently is that I wrote a guest blog post for Moonlight Gleam’s Bookshelf blog: Allison's Guest Post. That was awesome, and I feel honored to have been invited to write a post for that wonderful blog! I haven’t ever done a guest post like that before, and I ended up having a lot of fun writing it. I don’t often write those prose/essay kind of things, but I do enjoy that style of writing a lot. So I figure that I may write some for my own blog here in these upcoming weeks. Just because and just for fun. Hopefully they won’t end up being too boring ;)
So those are my updates. Luckily, the heat finally broke today, and the smoke finally seemed to clear-out, and it was just a glorious blue and breezy day. It feels like a new chapter, like a new beginning. And suddenly, I don't feel quite so mopey anymore.
