Writer at the Bar: The Oregon Spring Break

Anyone who has lived in Oregon can tell you that spring breaks here are dreary, rainy affairs. I can remember that most of mine growing up were that way. Usually, you'd end up spending most the days of your vacation inside, watching movies or watching the rain splatter against the window, dreaming of being in Hawaii.

In the case of this year -- it's been a very snowy spring so far. We had a snow storm blow through here a few days ago, leaving everything covered in the heavy, slushy white stuff. Which is fun when you can stay at home and watch it falling from the skies -- not so fun when you have to drive out in it. Or when you have a long driveway to shovel. The calendar may say spring, but it definitely doesn't feel like it here!

I don't get spring breaks anymore, but I made this drink in honor of the kind we have in Oregon. This drink is crisp, refreshing, and good for watching the slush come down outside.

The Oregon Spring Break
2 ounces of Absolut Pear Vodka
2 ounces of Pear Juice
1/2 ounce of simple syrup (more or less depending on your sweet tooth)
Lime or berry carbonated soda water (like Talking Rain -- the flavor's up to you)
Apple slice

Add all ingredients except the soda water into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until icy cold. Pour into stemless wine glass. Top off with soda water. Garnish with small apple slice, and enjoy!

  1. Looks delicious, Allison! I love these pictures. I'm still holding out for a warm, sunny spring break...maybe this year?
