Working Hard

It’s been some time since I’ve posted anything. Grrrrrr… I’ve been working long hours at the paper, and it’s taking its toll on my blog, and my writing! Sometimes it’s hard balancing both careers. The weeks have been so hectic lately, that when I get home, I just want to throw myself in front of the TV until the sun goes down. And after that, I just want to sleep.

I guess it’s just the working life, but it’s frustrating when it gets in the way of the thing you love to do – which is writing YA literature. I wish there was a way to balance it all better, but lately, my job has just been busy, busy. I’ve just been having to crank out stories like crazy, and while I get to write (which is awesome), news articles don’t have as much freedom as fiction writing. But, it’s a good job, and it’s giving me loads of practice. Seeing your work in print too is a great feeling, so I should really stop complaining so much and appreciate what I have.

I’ve finished going through the third draft of the second Drowning in the Dark book, which means it’s time to bump it up to the publishing company. I always hate this part of it. In fact, I feel that I probably could have turned it in sooner, but I’ve been holding onto to it just to push this part of the editing process off. Sometimes it’s hard to tell how good something is when you’re in the trenches with the drafts. So while I’m excited to have others’ perspective on it, the thought also makes me nervous. I hope the book is as good as I think it is (or hope it is ;) Regardless, it’s time to get that puppy out there, and start on the third in the series, and all the other book ideas that have been floating around inside my head the last few months.

I am so thankful that it’s Saturday, and that there are such things as weekends. Not to rest up, (though that’s awesome too) but to have two full days to write whatever I want.

Here’s to the weekend! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine!
